Chinese Hat Plant

The Chinese Hat Plant is showing off. Arching stems full of orange-red flowers of an interesting shape- giving the it also the name Cup and Saucer Plant or Parasol Flower.

The Latin name is Holmskioldia after Johan Theodor Holmskiold, a Danish botanist who lived in the 18th century.

The shrub is deciduous and can be cut back quite a lot in order to give it a more bushy look when the new growth starts.

The plant is actually native to the Himalayas but it's growing nicely here too.
